The Campaign for Psychological Safety

ABOUT THECAMPAIGN

Not Safe at Home is a campaign exploring how unsafe environments affect mental health, wellbeing, and the ability to function—across home, relationships, and work.

THE ISSUE

We often talk about psychological safety in the workplace. But we talk less about what happens when psychological safety is missing outside of it. Environments that feel unsafe—whether through ongoing disruption, stress, or instability—can have a significant and cumulative impact. On sleep. On health. On the ability to function. And yet, these impacts are often not fully recognised.

LIVED EXPERIENCE (CONTROLLED)

This campaign is informed by lived experience of navigating an environment that did not feel safe, and the impact this had over time. This has taken place alongside existing health challenges, including the long-term effects of a traumatic bereavement and a chronic condition—highlighting how environmental stress can compound existing vulnerability. But what has become clear is that this is not an isolated experience.

THE GAP

Across housing, support services, and workplaces, responses exist. But they are often not coordinated. The responsibility moves. The problem remains.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Many people are living in environments that affect their wellbeing and ability to function. Different situations. Same impact.

THE AIM

  • The impact of environmental stress on health
  • The connection between home environments and workplace outcomes
  • The need for better coordination between systems

THE APPROACH

  • A satirical series (The Job You Didn’t Apply For)
  • Insight and awareness content
  • Practical tools for individuals and employers
  • Policy engagement

Because when people aren’t safe at home… it doesn’t stay there.

Still not safe.
